Funsense sessions are full of tactile and other sensory experiences usually linked into a theme. We mix role play and art with relaxing sights, sounds and smells. See Funsense Resources for details of the kinds of materials we use.

Our sessions:

• create opportunites to discover something new and use your imagination
• have a strong structure but also offer time to explore and have fun
• can be enjoyed alongside the national curriculum

An Amazon Adventure

Meet Tamara Treefern and Brenda Butterfly at their base camp deep in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. Identify different creatures, learn about the different layers of the forest and discover why the rainforest is one of the most important environments on Earth.

Caribbean Calypso

Experience the sights and smells of a beautiful tropical island. Meet Karim, a life size puppet who will show you around his island. You'll visit the market place and taste some exotic fruits, create your own sea instruments and sea creature puppets to use in an underwater cave. If you are lucky, Karim will take you on a fishing trip to catch dinner! 

Glorious Gardens

Discover a world inhabited by butterflies, centipedes, worms, snails and ladybirds in the borders of a summer garden. Meet Rose and Bella and find out all about planting and growing before creating your own colourful butterflies to take away with you.

Puppetry

Funsense has a range of puppetry sessions where participants can work with shadow puppets, glove puppets and life size puppets. Working with puppets encourages team work and helps to develop hand to eye co-ordination and speech. It can also be great for boosting confidence. We invite participants to try a variety of puppets and have the opportunity to make their own simple puppet to keep.

Bespoke sessions

We have created sessions upon request covering themes such as a South African safari, Ancient Egyptians and Bollywood. We mix different elements of exisiting sessions and invent new ones. Please note we will sometimes require a maximum of two days extra planning at £70 a day. Please call us to discuss any ideas you have.

Hands on music and craft

These sessions are designed for smaller budgets and work on a 2 hour basis which can be split up into smaller sessions for different ages.  Funsense director Jenny Lockyer can offer music with live guitar and recorded music with the opportunity to join in with instruments and / or simple craft activities. These sessions are great for children's centre workshops. 

Please contact Jenny for availability. Prices start at £60 for a two hour session. This does not include travel which is charged at 40p a mile.   Set up time is half an hour with 15 mins to pack away.

Young Explorers

This is a session developed by Funsense in partnership with St Martin's Children's Centre, Epsom.  These sessions are designed on a sensory level and compliment the centre's aim to include young children with additional needs into their activities programme.  Sessions include the set up of a sensory environment with light, music and tactile arts activities and resources using much of the structure of St Martin's regular Stay and Play sessions. Children with additional needs can attend the session and have the space and time to explore and get used to the centre. It is also a great way to provide a mixed ability session with the sensory element helping children of all abilities to play together and have fun.
