Why would a school need a creative consultant?

Schools are busy places. Teachers’ and pupils’ ideas for projects or creative learning however big or small, can be a challenge to prioritise. It can be difficult for teachers to plan and develop ideas when there are so many other things for them to do. It might be worth thinking about asking for an outside eye to see how things could take shape and help the school to achieve its goals for creativity.

Funsense offers creative consultancy:
  • over the phone
  • visits and meetings
  • workshops / arts sessions

Funsense consultancy packages

1) A creative vision for our school

An informal assessment to schools wishing to pinpoint their creative aims. Funsense will gather information from staff and pupils through workshops and observations and present the school's aims and vision in a document. This document would prove useful for staff to refer to when looking for suitable funding opportunities, working with arts organisations or presenting ideas to governing bodies.

2) Planning and preparing for an arts project

This package gives teachers and other staff involved with planning arts projects in your school or group a practical framework for putting a project together. This might include working with artists, pooling resources creatively or bringing in a project manager, depending on the scale of your project.

3) Developing skills and ideas

Hands on workshops for exploring and developing skills and finding out about each other. These workshops can be enjoyed by pupils and staff together. We recommend a three day package with a planning meeting.

Example project: A three day residency with Skillnet

Skillnet are a social enterprise working with people with learning difficulties, promoting inclusion and running projects to enable people to move into work and become more independent.  They wanted to create a performance about people's rights to make their own life choices.

They worked with Funsense to explore how they could use puppetry in the piece. Funsense worked with Skillnet over three days offering a mixture of workshops and advice.

“I think everyone got so much out of the workshops; the ideas have started to turn into something real. We learned how to build on what we already had and make something really unique.”
Louise Jones, Co-ordinator, Skillnet Group, Kent
